WHNT News 19 Honored As Station of the Year by the Alabama Broadcasters Association

Station also wins awards for Best Public Affairs Programming, Feature and Photojournalism

April 3, 2017 – Alabama broadcasters gathered to celebrate the best in broadcasting during the Alabama Broadcasters Association’s awards ceremony, March 25 at the Hyatt Regency in Hoover, AL.  WHNT News 19, a Tribune Broadcasting’s Huntsville station, took home top honors with Station of the Year.  The award recognizes the station for their outstanding news, programing, public service and community relations. WHNT was also the recipient of five additional awards.

“I’m extremely happy to have won station of the year from the ABA,” said Stan Pylant, WHNT News 19 President and General Manager. “This outstanding recognition is a reflection of how hard our staff works day in and day out to keep the viewer’s trust. The promise that we will be there on-air and online for every major event, breaking news story and of course any time severe weather threatens our area. We don’t take this bond with our viewers lightly.”

WHNT News 19’s Distracted Driving project was recognized three times with Best in Broadcasting awards for public affairs programming, Promo- Event/Client Promotion and Service Project.

Judges’ Awards of Merit were also presented to WHNT News 19 team members Shane Hays and Melissa Riopka for Feature Report and again to Shane Hayes for Photojournalism.
