Erika Thomas to join KFSM 5NEWS in Fort Smith/Fayetteville

FORT SMITH May 30, 2017 – KFSM, Tribune Broadcasting’s Fort Smith/Fayetteville station and market leading CBS affiliate, today announced Erika Thomas is joining as 5NEWS weeknight anchor. Thomas is an experienced journalist who brings extensive reporting skills to the 5NEWS anchor desk. She replaces Katelynn Zoellner who left earlier this year to be closer to family in California.

“Erika is a strong communicator whose passion is understanding each story she reports” 5NEWS News Director Bill Cummings. “Our viewers are going to be able to see the work she puts into every newscast. Erika will work hard to understand the impact each and every story has on their lives.”

Thomas studied journalism and economics at The University of Missouri and graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors. Her award-winning reporting and anchoring career has include television stations WKBN in Youngstown, Ohio, KMEG/KPTH in Sioux City, Iowa and KOMU in Columbia, Missouri. Her awards included a regional Murrow Award for investigative reporting and regional Emmy award for Best Evening Newscast.

Thomas and her family are excited to make Arkansas home. She will start at KFSM in early June and will co-anchor the station’s 5, 6 and 10pm with Daren Bobb.
