CBS4 Collects 10,000 Books From Indiana’s Very Own To Donate To Public School Students

First Year Of CBS4 Reads Book Drive Exceeds Goal By 4,000 Books

September 24, 2018 — With the help of the community, CBS4 WTTV-TV, Tribune Media’s CBS television station in Indianapolis, collected, organized and distributed thousands of books for students in kindergarten through third grade attending Indianapolis Public Schools. In the first year of the program, the CBS4 Reads Book Drive exceeded its original goal of 6,000 books by receiving an additional 4,000 donations.
On July 7th, CBS4 began its book drive with dozens of locations around Central Indiana including several drop-off sites at Giordano’s, a proud sponsor of the CBS4 Reads Book Drive. On September 15th, volunteers from IPS and CBS4 sorted those books by grade level and started delivering them to students on September 17th during a pep rally at CFI 70.

“The community’s reaction to help give students free books in Central Indiana was overwhelming,” commented Kerri Cavanaugh, VP of News. “Their generous donations will have a lasting impact on Indiana’s Very Own.”

“More children will get to share the love of reading thanks to the CBS4 Reads program,” commented Jamie Aitken, CBS4/FOX59 General Manager.  “We couldn’t have done it without the support from the community, 2 Men and Truck who picked up all of the donations, and Giordano’s for sponsoring this event.”
