WGN-TV To Become “Chicago’s Merry Own” This Holiday Season

Highlights Include Special Events, Promotions & Programming

Chicago’s Very Own WGN-TV changes its station slogan to “Chicago’s Merry Own” this November and December as it celebrates the holiday season with a variety of special events, promotions and programming.

Highlights include WGN-TV’s live broadcast of the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade with hosts Micah Materre and Mark Suppelsa on November 26, a WGN Morning News gift-giveaway in the second week of December and the 13th annual WGN Morning News Toy Drive on December 21.  2015 also marks the 11th consecutive year for our annual holiday season airings of Bozo, Gar & Ray: WGN TV Classics since its #1 primetime premiere Christmas Eve 2005.

In addition, WGN-TV will air special Chicago’s Merry Own holiday commercials throughout the programming day and the following special event programming and movies (all times CT):

Thursday, November 19

7-8p       The Vampire Diaries: Mommie Dearest (2015) (HD)
In order to get through to Lily (guest star Annie Wersching) about Julian’s (guest star Todd Lasance) manipulating ways, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) confront their mother with painful memories from their childhood.  However, when Lily reveals a dark secret she’s been harboring for over 160 years, Stefan and Damon are left questioning everything they’ve ever known about their family.  Determined to prove himself to Lily, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) comes face-to-face with Julian and challenges him to a duel, but an unexpected twist threatens to complicate things.  Elsewhere, Matt (Zach Roerig) finds himself in the middle of a deepening mystery involving the residents of Mystic Falls and Caroline’s (Candice King) world is turned upside down when Valerie (guest star Elizabeth Blackmore) reveals some life-changing news to her.  Kat Graham and Matt Davis also star.

8-9p       The Originals: Out of the Easy (2015) (HD)
With a dire prophecy looming over them, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) invite Lucien (guest star Andrew Lees), Tristan (guest star Oliver Auckland) and Aurora (guest star Rebecca Breeds) to a Thanksgiving gathering in an attempt to negotiate a truce.  When Aurora reveals that she has powerful leverage over Klaus, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and Freya (Riley Voelkel) take matters into their own hands, leading to a deadly three-way confrontation.  Elsewhere, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) are forced to take drastic measures when they realize Davina (Danielle Campbell) may be in over her head and Cami (Leah Pipes) finds herself face-to-face with a dangerous new threat.

Chicago’s 82nd annual holiday parade kicks off the 2015 holiday season on historic State Street with giant balloons, spirited marching bands, high-stepping equestrians, fabulous floats, performance groups and celebrities including Grand Marshal David Arquette.  WGN News anchors Mark Suppelsa and Micah Materre host coverage.  (Broadcast also streamed live on WGNTV.com)

11a-1p  Bozo, Gar & Ray: WGN TV Classics (2005)
A look back at three of WGN’s most beloved television series: “Bozo’s Circus,” “Garfield Goose and Friends” and “Ray Rayner and His Friends.”  The classic TV trilogy starred Chicago television legends Bob Bell, Frazier Thomas, Ray Rayner, Roy Brown and Ned Locke among others.  1950s holiday favorites “Hardrock, Coco and Joe,” “Suzy Snowflake” and “Frosty the Snowman” are also featured.  WGN’s Dean Richards hosts.  (Broadcast also streamed live on WGNTV.com)
