Northwestern Athletics and WGN Radio Agree To Four-Year Broadcast Extension

February 26, 2016 – Northwestern Athletics and WGN Radio AM-720 announced today that they have agreed on a four-year broadcast rightsholder extension. The agreement will keep Wildcats football and men’s basketball on the 50,000-watt radio powerhouse through the conclusion of the 2019-20 campaign.

WGN Radio has been the radio home of the Wildcats since 1996.

“The Northwestern Wildcats and WGN Radio have forged a special relationship over the last two decades,” said Jim Phillips, Northwestern Vice President for Athletics & Recreation. “WGN not only is a broadcasting force, but a true Chicago institution. We have shared many thrilling moments through the years, and look forward to many more memories with WGN Radio as the home of Chicago’s Big Ten Team.”

WGN Radio also is proud to announce a new four-year contract for Dave Eanet, the voice of Wildcats football since 1990 and men’s basketball since 1996, WGN Radio Sports Director and a key personality on the Steve Cochran Show. Eanet has been honored numerous times for his Wildcats radio broadcasts with the Illinois Broadcaster Association’s Silver Dome Award for “best sports play-by-play” and was inducted into the WGN Radio Walk of Fame in 2015.

“We’re proud to present Northwestern basketball and football, anchored by Dave ‘Mr. Cat’ Eanet,” said WGN Radio President & General Manager Jimmy de Castro. “We look forward to bringing our listeners the excitement of Chicago’s Big Ten Team in the years to come.”

Former Chicago Bear Ted Albrecht is the Wildcats football analyst on WGN Radio while former college and professional head coach Joey Meyer provides analysis on basketball broadcasts. Jim Phillips can be heard every Saturday on the network during Wildcats Insider, and head coaches Pat Fitzgerald, Chris Collins and Wildcats student-athletes make frequent appearances on the station’s different shows.

WGN Radio broadcasts can be heard in 38 states and Canada, as well as streamed worldwide on the WGN Radio mobile apps, wgnradio.com, TuneIn and iHeartRadio.
