NewsFix Focuses on Teen Suicide in Dallas/Fort Worth Week-long series begins May 16

Dallas, TX- May 16, 2016 – CW33’s NewsFix, Tribune Broadcasting’s evening newscast in Dallas/Fort Worth, is teaming up with The Grant Halliburton Foundation for a week-long special series on teen suicide.  “Breaking Suicide,” airs during NewsFix at 5pm and 9pm each evening this week.  Beginning today, May 16th the series will focus on the stories of five families who bravely come forward to share their experiences in the aftermath of personal tragedy.  The subjects range from depression, to the effects of bullying, to the misuse of steroids.

CW33’s collaboration with The Grant Halliburton Foundation comes at a critical time.  As the suicide rate among young people in the North Texas continues to climb, the Foundation works to prevent suicide, promote better mental health, and strengthen the network of mental health resources for teens and young adults in Dallas/Fort Worth.

Steve Simon, News Director of NewsFix says, “We hope this series can become a resource school districts and groups like The Grant Halliburton Foundation can use during future presentations.  These emotional stories will start important discussions. It took a lot of courage for these families to speak with us, but they know their message can perhaps help another family.”

To enhance this effort, NewsFix will also host a live discussion on Facebook tomorrow, 6pm Tuesday, May 17th following the 5pm newscast at www.facebook.com/CW33.  Taking questions from directly viewers, this discussion will feature Sierra Sanchez, Senior Program Coordinator at Grant Halliburton Foundation.  Ms. Sanchez’s work includes raising awareness and providing preventative education on mental health issues through interactive presentations and resources. She routinely travels throughout the Greater Dallas area to high schools, middle schools, community centers and student organizations discussing and helping participants address teen-related issues. Questions and comments for this discussion can be submitted now at www.cw33.com/ask
