News Anchor Mike Landess Returning To Denver, Joining Colorado’s Own Channel 2

Landess To Co-Anchor New 4 p.m. Newscast With Deborah Takahara

JUNE 30, 2016 – Colorado’s Own Channel 2, KWGN-TV, today announced iconic Denver News Anchor Mike Landess will join the station to help launch a new 4pm newscast beginning July 18.

Landess will co-anchor Channel 2 News at 4pm with Deborah Takahara. Meteorologist Matt Makens, who recently joined Channel 2, will handle weather duties at 4pm.
With more than 50 years of experience, Landess is a broadcasting legend in Denver, where he spent nearly 30 years on the anchor desk (KUSA, KMGH). He has been honored with more than two-dozen Emmys, including five for Best Anchor, five Edward R. Murrow Awards and was part of a team that was awarded a Peabody for wildfire coverage.

“My motto is ‘Be where you’re supposed to be’,” said Landess. “And the opportunity to be with friends and colleagues at KWGN called my name.”

“Mike is an iconic anchor who understands the issues and the audience in the Denver metro area. I’m confident he and Deb will make a fantastic team since she too has deep roots in our community,” said Joan Barrett, Vice President and General Manager of KWGN.  “We are proud KWGN’s history as the first television station in Colorado and we look forward to continuing to build a team and news product that puts Coloradans first.”

Colorado’s Own Channel 2 News at 4pm will feature stories that highlight the communities and people who make Colorado unique. Chief Meteorologist Dave Fraser, Anchor Mike Barz and Reporter Kevin Torres will play regular roles in the 4pm newscast and Daybreak’s Kim Posey, Meteorologist Chris Tomer, and Traffic Reporter Heather Mills will also regularly contribute stories.

“Having grown up in Colorado I know how important KWGN is to our community. It’s part of our fabric. And it’s time to increase our news footprint,” said Holly Gauntt, Vice President of News and Digital Content for KWGN. “I can’t think of a better way to do that then by adding newscasts that are anchored by journalists with deep roots and a strong understanding of our community. And I can’t think of a stronger team than Mike, Deborah, Matt, Dave, Kevin and Kim.”

Takahara, Landess and Makens will also anchor Channel 2 News at 7pm, Denver’s fastest growing evening newscast*.

“I love what I do, and it is a blessing to be able to do it in a community I care so much about,” said Landess.
