Southern California’s Largest Fireworks Show is Most Watched Locally Produced 4th of July Special in the Country

San Diego, CA – July 16, 2019 – KSWB-TV (FOX 5), Tribune Broadcasting’s San Diego television station, is proud to announce its live telecast of the Big Bay Boom ranked #1 among key demos and delivered its highest rating (6.3 HH) since it began airing the special in 2009.

KSWB/FOX 5’s 2019 live Big Bay Boom telecast ranked #1 in Households, Total Persons, and other key demos. Further, a combined 125,000 Households watched the 2019 Big Bay Boom fireworks on TV from 9-9:30PM in San Diego & Los Angeles (KTLA), making it the most watched locally produced 4th of July special in the country. The Big Bay Boom fireworks on FOX 5 (9-9:30PM) is the highest-rated program on the night in San Diego, five years straight and outperforms 2-hr program average of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks on KNSD (8-10PM.)

KSWB/FOX 5’s original programing is also a top competitor leading up to the Big Bay Boom fireworks celebration, as Explore San Diego ranked #1 from 7:30-8p with Men 35-64. After the fireworks, FOX 5 News Special ranked #2 from 9:30-10PM with Adults 25-54 & Men 25-54.

San Diego’s Big Bay Boom fireworks show, conducted each July 4th, generates approximately $6.0 million in incremental sales for the local area’s hotels, restaurants, retail shops, and other businesses. Adding the various ripple or multiplier effects produced through the supply chain and additional consumer spending, the fireworks event creates an additional $4.2 million in revenues for the local economy. Including the estimated $370,000 value of media exposure, the Big Bay Boom thus delivers a total gross economic value of $10.6 million.
