FOX8/WGHP Raises More than $122K for Hurricane Florence Victims

Station takes more than 1000 individual donations in 13 hour telethon

High Point, NC – September 19, 2019 As the coastal communities of North Carolina and South Carolina begin the long road to recovery following in the wake of Hurricane Florence, the greater Piedmont Triad opened their collective hearts and wallets to help.  FOX8/WGHP, Tribune Broadcasting’s High Point, North Carolina station, held an in-studio telethon today (Wednesday, 9/19) raising $122,563 to help deliver aid to those impacted by the storm.

All money pledged via the phone bank will be processed through the Salvation Army’s national headquarters and 100% of the funds raised will be used to deliver aid.

The 13-hour in-studio telethon was staffed by Salvation Army volunteers, FOX8 staff members and numerous community leaders.  FOX8 also engaged its more than 775,000 Facebook fans to spread the message on social media.

“$122,000 is an incredible sum of money, and truly speaks to the unmatched generosity of the people of the Triad.  But make no mistake, this will be a long term recovery effort.  I encourage everyone to visit salvationarmycarolinas.org to do what they can to help,” said FOX8/WGHP General Manager, Jim Himes.

“The Salvation Army is extremely blessed by our generous community and great partners like FOX8 who helped us accomplish an amazing goal today.  Know that 100% of these proceeds go directly to those affected by Hurricane Florence.  On the coast, we are working with people who are dealing with some of the most difficult moments of their lives, but because of people like you, there is hope,” added Captain Matt Hedgren of the Salvation Army of Greensboro.
