FOX31 Denver Awarded 19 Heartland Emmys

Station Takes Home Key Awards for Breaking News, Continuous Coverage and Investigative Reporting

DENVER, CO – July 23, 2018 – FOX31, Tribune Broadcasting’s Denver FOX affiliate, won 19 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Heartland Emmys Saturday night, including the prestigious Breaking News, Continuous Coverage and Team Coverage awards.

“Winning these awards speaks volumes about the incredibly talented news team we have at FOX31,” said Joan Barrett, VP and General Manager of FOX31. “It is also an indicator of the hard work that the entire station puts in everyday to provide the best news coverage for the Colorado community.”

The FOX31 team also took home Emmys for best daytime newscast, politics/government, business/consumer, military, historical and cultural programs, magazine programs and feature segments.

“We had strong wins for investigative reporting, urgent coverage of breaking news, continuing coverage of a big story, creative live reporting and storytelling, and we were also honored for some amazing specials that our team produced from around the globe.  I’m really proud to work with this team,” said Brian Gregory, FOX31 News Director. “I think the Breaking News category really stands out because it was such a tough night in our newsroom. Everyone was heartbroken. It was the second time in less than a month an officer in our area had been killed in the line of duty. Our team put our best foot forward to serve our community and to honor Deputy Heath Gumm with emotional, impactful coverage.”

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) and the Emmy Award honor outstanding achievement in the television industry. The NATAS Heartland Chapter includes television markets in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma. With 19 chapters across the country, NATAS is the only non-profit organization dedicated to recognizing outstanding achievement, raising industry standards, and improving the quality of television.
