As it prepared to separate its publishing business, Tribune Media acquired Local TV Holdings to become the nation’s largest independent broadcaster, began the conversion of its superstation WGN America into a widely distributed general entertainment cable channel, launched a re-imagined Tribune Studios as an engine for producing original content and expanded the company’s segment leading metadata businesses, including Gracenote, the world’s most-used music metadata company. Tribune Media is growing its metadata business to meet demand from clients around the globe. Tribune acquired Gracenote in February 2014 to extend into music, automotive and other international markets for TV. Tribune Media integrated Gracenote with Tribune Media Services (TMS), a leader in EPG and TV data for North America, Latin America and Europe, and later expanded into India, the Middle East and parts of Asia with the acquisition of What’s-On.

Today, Gracenote metadata is the backbone for popular TV, music and movie services and platforms around the world, reaching music and TV fans everyday through Apple iTunes, Amazon, Ford Sync, TiVo, DirectTV and many more.

Tribune Media has dramatically grown its web presence across its television brands in 2014, attracting approximately 50 million unique monthly users to Tribune Broadcasting’s local websites each month according to internal data and Google analytics.
